Some of the horses were bright and shiny with obvious new paint and the others, we were told, are in various stages of rennovation. They were so very shiny, we wondered if they were fiberglass, but the attendant told us that they were aluminum! They seemed a little smaller than I remembered, and a bit of research explained that these particular carousels, made by the Herschell Spillman Company of North Tonawanda NY, were made to be portable! This one was installed at Stewart Park in 1951 and indeed, is taken down each winter and put back up in the spring.
One of the newly painted ponies, with an Appaloosa motif!
One of the ponies that shows a bit more wear!
I find it interesting that they all have their ears pinned! Hmmmm
